Shark, Shark, Shark "Ride the Rainbow" 3" CD

This is a one-off project from Chris Jeely of Accelera Deck that is apparently some sort of "audio mockery of the presidency of George W. Bush", but aside from the fact that Bush sucks and so does this CD, I'd never have made a connection between the two. The CD-R is housed in a plastic sleeve with a xeroxed cover that has an image of a dude laying down on a porch smoking a cigarette... which I have to say is one of the most uneventful and bland looking photographs I've ever seen used for artwork on a release - not to mention that it has nothing to do with the alleged subject matter. Go figure. There's no tracklist for some reason either, I got the track names from the label's website. First up is the title track, "Ride the Rainbow", which is 18:43 of glitchy electronic blips whirling about very repetitiously. It's not too frantic or chaotic, but it's definitely layered and jittery, and this approach is honestly something that I just never find to be of much interest. In this case it's doubly problematic because I don't care for these types of experimental sounds, and this is a very one-sided and stagnant piece that runs on for far too long. Three strikes and you're out, you know? The quite brief "This Devil Loves You" (barely over a minute) is similar but works a little better if for no other reason than it's short as hell, so it doesn't have time to get boring. It's still not an interesting piece to me, but that's life. I just don't see the need for this release at all. It's incredibly dull and there's no visual thread to convey any of the subject matter that the track is supposedly inspired by. I've gotta pass here. (2/10)
