Disrespect - Justice in a Bag

Disrespect "Justice in a Bag" 7"
[Profane Existence]

Here's the second EP from this newer band with some veteran members who've been involved with the likes of Civil Disobedience, Destroy, Misery, and Pissed, just so you know. This time out the writing is stronger and they make much better use of their three vocalists with lots of vocal tradeoffs, which adds more movement to the writing and lets the female shouting play an equal role. Definitely a good move. There's more variety to the tracks as well, while still sticking to the same basic style of hardcore/punk. "Hung, Drawn & Quartered" is more melodic with some really unexpected riffing across the board, and the lead vocals are almost spoken; and "Timmy" is also much more openly melodic with faster vocal patterns and a good energy level. The recording is very similar to that of their debut 7", and I'm still not wild on that guitar tone, but they reigned it in a little this time so it fits in much better and lets the bass have more space, so I'm okay with that. The record is pressed on clear red vinyl and comes in a color sleeve with a cool painting and some collaged art mocking the current presidential administration. A xeroxed insert provides the lyrics, which are longer and hit on more of a storytelling approach here, dealing with everything from the torture of prisoners in Iraq, to jock/bully mentalities, and showing no remorse for rapists. "In the midst of this hell an unwanted child was born into a family already shattered and torn, Neglected and abused, a childhood spent, Another ball and chain for mom to resent, Not good enough to earn father's respect, 'My loser kid' is what he rejects..." Good stuff. This is a more memorable and catchy set of tunes, I'm liking this. (7/10)
Running time - 10:00 (approximately), Tracks: 4
[Notable tracks: Hung, Drawn & Quartered, Death Insurance]
