Words That Burn "Profits of the Christ" 7"
[Crimes Against Humanity]
Five tracks of brutal crust punk with tradeoffs between sick screams and ultra low growls. This is a straight up crust punk sound with simple, driving rhythms made more metallic by the growling death metal styled vocals, though not so much on a musical level per se. "Nike Air Genocide" speeds things up nicely with a lot of energy, which continues in "The Art of Theft", and I think closer "Bare the Scars" is a cover by some band called Remission, but whatever. It's all good stuff. I have no real issues with the sound. The vocals might dominate a little, but the chunky music sounds pretty strong. They could probably stand to turn the guitars up a little to make them the real driving force, but screw it. The cover art is a pretty dark depiction of Christ as a bloody, greedy figure, and sort of reminds me of the latest Deicide release, with a band photo and small illustration elsewhere. So the layout's not bad. I'm not at all into some of the lyrical humor found in tracks like "666-Pack" and whatnot, but the more serious tracks attacking corporate greed, war, religion, etc. are fine by me. Typical, but fine. "Badges won't pay for life, Those who choose to serve, To breathe the death, As they stand and fight, Irresponsible technology swallows, His dreams for tomorrow are chemically burned..." Another solid release from Words That Burn. It's really nothing new, but it still delivers. A basic release, a consistent listen... that about says it. (7/10)
