Japanische Kampfhörspiele - Hardcore Aus Der Ersten Welt

Japanische Kampfhörspiele "Hardcore Aus Der Ersten Welt" CD
[Bastardized]

13 tracks of over the top quirky and frenetic grind from this German act. This is a little more out there than their last EP, building around a similar foundation of speedy grindcore, but coming off as totally frantic with unexpected shifts between burly, groovy brutal death metal, energetic crossover hardcore/punk, straight up classic grindcore, moderately chaotic and technical riffs, and then some... all within songs that average around two minutes each! The vocals shift from insane high-end screams with a little distortion to vicious low growls, often layered together for added effect, so the complete picture is one that's kind of all over the place, but effectively so, and with really tight performances. "Zimmer 2.407b" opens with some killer thrash picking patterns and quick discordant chords, "Abflussbestattung" randomly plows into some black metal tremolo picking amidst lots of churning power chords, "Koscher" opens with a totally slow paced mosh break layered with eerie clean guitars and then shifts back and forth with alternately blazing tremolo picking, and "Zieh Die Jacke Falschrum An" is more moderately paced and groove-laden - but definitely hits hard and is among the more powerful compositions herein, with plenty of old school death metal runs that bring back memories. As far as the production, it needs very minor work, but sounds significantly stronger than their last outing, which is great. The basslines sound pretty fuckin' cool (defined and dominant rather than mirror all of the guitar parts) and really ought to be turned up louder in the mix so that they don't get lost, and the drums are too clicky and sort of lack low-end presence, but the guitar tone is highly effective and honed, and the vocals sound much more in line against the instrumentation here. Good work overall. All of the lyrics are in German, so I have no idea what the content of the songs is dealing with, but the layout fucking rules. The collaged imagery and layers of gritty textures look great, the quality of the photos is really slick, and the color scheme is really forceful, so the end result definitely catches the eye. Very well done. This definitely comes recommended for grind fans because it's about as far from one-sided as you can get, and there aren't many bands out there who can avoid those pitfalls and come out unscathed with a concise full-length that really does flow well. There's nothing here that strikes me as particularly out of place or jarring. Look into this one. If they keep moving at this pace their next record will fucking destroy. (7/10)
Running time - 30:57, Tracks: 13
