Cast Aside "Overcome" 7"
[Malfunction]
Here's some more vicious straightedge hardcore from this Richmond act. This material is similar to their demo (short songs based around a much heavier old school hardcore approach - see the demo review above) but better, as it's even more brutal and memorable in the songwriting department. There are some killer breakdowns with powerful drumming, relentless vocals, all the right stuff. The attitude definitely reminds me of a faster version of Integrity along the lines of "Harder They Fall" or something like that. They re-recorded three tracks from the demo along with three new tracks, and the new songs are definitely more energetic, so it's a good sign that they're showing improvements over what was an already excellent start. The production is also similar to that of the demo, but thicker and using more of a clean, even mix. The drums have more density, the bass presence is more noticeable, etc. The black and white sleeve folds out from the center to reveal a few blurry motion shots of the band playing live along with lyrics and such. The illustrations of the wolves are pretty damn slick too... realy creative stuff. And the lyrics? "Die motherfucker! You can't run away from me, You try to fucking change me, You'll never get your way, With every breath you take, Your time is running out, My ways are set in stone, There's nothing left for you..." Yeah, these guys mean business. This is definitely one of the best new bands I've hard in awhile, and this shit is essential for the straightedge crowd. So don't be a fucking wuss, pick this up. (9/10)
