Black Harvest "Version 6.0" zine
[zine]
This "industrial, noise, dark ambient, neo-folk/classical, EBM" zine out of the UK keeps getting better and better, and this is definitely the biggest and best issue to date, jumping in size some 10 to 20 pages and including some of the best interviews with the most interesting acts covered thus far. Amongst the interviews are a somewhat brief discussion with Whitehouse, slightly lengthier chats with Con-Dom and G.G.F.H., and a couple of longer talks with Death in June and Never Presence Forever. I still wish that all of the interviews were a bit longer, especially the Con-Dom and Whitehouse pieces, but they're still interesting nonetheless. There are also many more reviews this time out, covering Black Harvest's usual wide range of experimental genres, and despite the fact that the ratings still lean very much towards the higher end of things (likely because they're often reviewing material that they in fact enjoy), I am starting to notice the appearance of more lower ratings in the 4 - 6 range, which is a good sign that the writers are being more critical. My main suggestion here is that I'd like to see the reviews section alphabetized for a more logical organization of content. Other features include a brief segment on John Wayne Gacy, an extensive live review of the UK's Infest festival, a handful of solid book/zine reviews, and a couple of other bits and pieces. All in all this is a very good zine that in my opinion has been showing a great deal of growth over the years. If Version 6.0 is any indication of things to come, I would certainly expect bigger and brighter works from this bunch down the road, and I surely hope that's the case! (7/10)
