Hot fucking damn! This band features ex-members of Carry On, Buried Alive, and Despair, and let me tell you straight off the bat that as much as I liked Despair and Carry On, this is better. And Buried Alive? This makes Buried Alive look like fuckin' James Taylor! I'm talkin' fast, heavy, vengeful fucking hardcore with no bullshit. None of the songs hit more than two minutes and a few seconds, the vocals are vicious yells, the chord progressions are forceful and the breakdowns are massive, the recording sounds like a million bucks... you can't fucking lose with this thing. There's not a lot of diversity, but you don't fucking need it. It's nine tracks and 16 minutes of pure fucking rage. The songs are short and powerful and that's all there is to it. The production is god damn perfect, thanks to Bill Korecky at Mars (ironic, as at times this definitely has a classic Cleveland vibe to it, but without all the metal). The guitars are heavy as hell but textured and clear, you can hear the monstrous bass tone pounding away in the distance, the drums are dense and natural, and the vocals are right smack in with the music. If every hardcore record sounded like this I would be a happy motherfucker. The layout's really simple, but it gets the job done. Everything is in black and white, with some band photos and some scratchy, messy textures, and all of the text is in a straightforward font. Most of the lyrics are personal and pissed as shit, no bones about it: "Big mouth, no heart. My hate for you just fucking grows. In and out of every trend. Never backed the things you said. The loudest are the first to go, so fucking go. Seen your kind many times. Big mouth, no heart. In shame, disgrace. Fist to your face." Fuck yeah. This is one of the only hardcore records I've ever heard that I can describe as "brutal" without referring to metal in any way, shape, or form. If you liked any of these guys' old bands and you don't like this you are seriously fuckin' stupid. Stop being a fucking candyass and pick this shit up. (9/10)
