Strong Intention "Extermination Vision" CD
[Coalition]
Holy shit! After years of hearing about this Maryland band, this is my first chance to actually hear one of their releases, and god damn is it not what I expected! 14 tracks of vicious hardcore in less than 17 minutes, ranging from insane speeds to brutal metalcore mosh breaks in no time at all! And what about the slower doom-ish riffing and the slight crust punk influences!? This might not make any sense, but imagine Infest, Madball, and Discharge all wrapped up in a ball or something... There are some crazed noisy leads, some riffing that borders on grind, I mean, fuck... this is definitely not what I had in mind at all. Fuck, there's one part in "Third Space" that even sounds exactly like fucking Black Sabbath! And Rick ta Life even does some guest vocals (Say what!?) in "Panic in Year Zero" and "Biased", and he sounds fucking great with this style of music... way better than he does in his own bands, actually. I like the production. The vocals and drums dominate a little bit, but the sound is pretty thick, and aside from the fact that there's not a lot of bass definition, I'm not particularly bothered by anything. The layout is quite nice, too. Everything is black and white with metallic silver, mostly text and a few political types of images as well. The lyrics are actually far more political than I had expected: "Brutal fallout, their sanctions have failed, Eradicate peace, humanity derailed, The war never ended, just on TV, And the only suffering you know of is the suffering you see, US policy is a brutal war against the young." This is an awesome CD. I don't know if all of their stuff is this good or this diverse, but this is great, and I'm glad I finally got the chance to check 'em out. Recommended. (7/10)
