Some Kind of Hate "s/t" CD
[Bridge Nine]
Here's the CD EP pressing of this Boston band's 7" that I reviewed last year. It's on a "colored" CD where the clear plastic around the edge of what is essentially a 3" CD is tinted (blue in this case) to mimic the look of colored vinyl. The layout is really minimal but looks awesome, using nothing but metallic silver ink on thick matte black paper, an entirely different appearance than that of the 7" sleeve. Here's what I had to say about this when I picked up the 7" awhile back: This is fucking awesome, angry hardcore the way it should be done coming straight out of Boston. They're definitely inspired by the old school sound, but they throw in some discordance and a little bit of melody amidst interesting arrangements that aren't generic in the least. The vocalist also has an incredibly unique voice... there's just a raspy, livid bitterness to the screams. I'm really into this - just good, short, pissed off songs. They really can't be easily described by the genre's standards, and I love their attitude. Kurt Ballou handled the production so of course it sounds pretty good. It's a bit thin and the drums need more punch, but it's no big thing. Lyrics? The band name says it all. Perhaps, "Words mean nothing talk is cheap, Don't waste my time, Don't waste your breath, Your words mean nothing, Don't look at me, Fuck you," or "I'm calling you out and I'm naming names, I'm calling you out 'cause I'm just talking shit, So cliché but it's so true, I'm just sick of fucks like you wasting my time and ruining my life, Call it what you want but I'm just talking shit, I'm not pulling punches, Just getting this off my chest." Fuck yeah. I hope there's more on the way, because this thing's over in a flash. (7/10)
