Insurance Risk "No Pity" 7"
[Parts Unknown]
Wow. Here's some blazing old school styled straightedge hardcore with burly vocal shouts and a totally pissed off attitude. This is definitely along the faster and more intense side of the classic hardcore sound. And they're from Norway! They're definitely inspired by classic US hardcore, though. They've got the solid bass breaks down, the structures are straightforward, and the songs keep the hard in hardcore with no metal and no melody. It's not as "youth crew" sounding as I was sort of expecting either. The recording is raw but it sounds fine to me. Everything is audible, the bass tone is awesome, the rugged guitars and vocals sort of lend an older feel to the mix, etc. All they really need to work on is the visual presentation. The black and white sleeve has a pretty weak illustration of the singer holding the mic into a crowd of skeletons on the cover, and the scan is sort of blurry too. I'm also not into the poorly drawn collegiate lettering used for the band logo. I like the handwritten lyrics on the xeroxed insert, but the rest definitely needs some work. The lyrics are straight in your face and pull no punches: "I see that 'X' on your hand, Claim you're in a straightedge band, Drink your beer behind our backs, Fooled us all - now we attack, Time has come - payback time." This is an awesome record. I never would have guessed these guys were form Norway! Watch out for 'em... (7/10)
