Municipal Waste - Waste 'em All

Municipal Waste "Waste 'em All" CD
[Six Weeks]

Hot damn, these guys keep getting better and better with every release. This time around they throw down 16 tracks of badass crossover hardcore/thrash metal in less than 20 minutes, with no song topping two minutes! Think classic 80's crossover with fast vocal patterns mixed in with a little bit of late-80's German thrash and some US thrash (thrash metal, that is). It's basically ripping good times, have fun crossover with some thrash metal breaks or solos thrown in from time to time. As for what they sound like? Maybe D.R.I. (when they were good) meets "Extreme Aggression" era Kreator with a little Cryptic Slaughter and Anthrax thrown in for good measure (musically). There's even an unlisted track at the end that drops some total metal, complete with hilariously dead on singing vocals, etc. It's probably a partial cover or something, it sounds somewhat familiar and definitely unlike a Municipal Waste original. But it's awesome either way! The production destroys everything else they've done, too. It's still a little bit raw, which is a good thing, but the mix is even, so the bass parts really have some room. Plus the drums sound solid, the guitars are heavy, and I love the vocal placement. Damn good stuff. The artwork and band photos are cool and are definitely going for an 80's thrash look, of course. The cover art is pretty slick, but the hilarious band photos on the back cover (complete with "evil" poses and reddish/green lighting) really do the trick. There's also the obligatory black and white photo collage, and the lyrics are more than a little amusing as well. "I couldn't help but notice that the band I came to see, Was playing to the speed of motherfucking Kenny G, A trail of victims in my wake, Crushing skulls 'til faces break, Another night with the Waste, Ungodly scene of guts and beer, Bloody faces stiff with fear, We only play the fast shit here!" This is definitely their best work yet, without question. Highly recommended. Keep an eye on this band for sure... (8/10)
