The Secret Society of the Sonic Six/The Cherry Point "split" 7"

A few untitled tracks from these two experimentalists. The Secret Society of the Sonic Six starts out and immediately confuses the hell out of me with 80's pop sounding Casio drumbeats and handclaps along with synths, and, yes, singing vocals. This totally sounds like demented and completely fucked up 80's synth pop. It's quirkier and far more experimental, but it definitely as a little bit of an Oingo Boingo sort of thing going on... aside from that whole "I'm gonna tie you with speaker wire (all I need is an alibi)" lyrical direction. The second track is even weirder, with strange singing and some people yelling "Faggots!" and stuff in the background, almost like the musician(s) is/are being taunted by jocks or some shit!? Bizarre. Totally bizarre. The Cherry Point's piece is rugged harsh noise with subtle and indecipherable distorted vocals. It's repetitive for the most part, before locking into a quick loop and exploding into a ton of treble-heavy distorted swirls towards the end. It's rare to hear vocals in his work, and I'd be curious to know the content, but this is good stuff nonetheless. The 7" comes with plain white labels that have stamps on them to indicate which side is which. The sleeve is incredible, screenprinted in two colors (pink and metallic gold) over thick, textured red paper. Inside is a note, folded up in an interesting pattern, screenprinted in the gold ink on black notebook paper. It contains the lyrics to the first song from The Secret Society of the Sonic Six, but no other information is included anywhere!? This is a crazy fuckin' record. I'm sure it's limited to a small pressing. You need to hear this to understand... (7/10)
