Propergol "Naked" 3" CD
[PACrec]
This release offers up one loud track that briefly begins with some deep bass and then, after a sample, explodes with tons of crunching distortion and garbled, indecipherable vocals/samples. It's somewhat redundant, but certainly has a maniacal sort of energy to it, and the way samples are subtly mixed in and panned back and forth is interesting (even though you can't make out the content). There are a few stuttered breaks of silence, and I mean very few, but it breaks up the monotony just enough, which is nice. The recording is crystal clear and devastatingly loud, covering a good range of tones with a lot of thick low-end as well as piercing treble and grinding midrange. This one comes sealed in a fairly small black envelope with metallic silver writing on it. Inside is the "business card" disc in a plastic sleeve with a color sticker on the front with some odd (and honestly tacky) imagery of a robed man holding an assault rifle to the back of a kneeling victim's head - on the "landscape" of a nude woman!? This is a solid effort, but I think the sample at the beginning of the track (Man #1: "Come quietly or there will be... trouble." Man #2: "Ohhh, fuck you!") ruins the feel because it seems cheesy and forced, whereas the rest of the track is more mysterious and aggressive on more intuitive levels. Not bad at all, but it could be something more... Oh, and it's limited to 52 copies. (6/10)
