Nordvargr "Rektal_dist 1.4" 3" CD
[PACrec]
Whoa, this is completely and entirely different from the last Nordvargr release that I heard: One track in just over four minutes, consisting entirely of harsh distortion panning left to right with lots of shrill jumps as well dropouts to thicker, muddier tones with some high-pitched clicks and pops. Towards the end there's a quick and sudden shift into some supreme dark ambient tones, which is more of what I was expecting (hoping) to hear from this release, but that's all there is to it. It's minimal, in a good way, but it lacks the atmosphere that I was anticipating based on the previous material I've heard. A nice and loud recording that's very crisp and detailed does help matters, but I'm still somewhat disappointed by the nature of the track. Even the track title makes me feel as though less thought is involved here. In addition, the packaging is a bit bland, as the standard PACrec "business card" CD-R in a plastic sleeve with a sticker on each side is done all in black and white with no real imagery. The front cover has UPC code lines above the "Nordvargr" text in all caps, and the back is just plain text. There you have it. Being PACrec release #40, this one's limited to 40 numbered copies. My guess is that it's sold out... (5/10)
