Irikarah "History Changes All" 3" CD
[PACrec]
I'm not familiar with this project, but this piece revolves around a throbbing sort of low-end rhythm with some midrange fuzz in there underneath a sample that's not in English. It sort of sounds like German, but I don't think it's German either... it's hard to tell as there's so much going on around it. The rhythmic nature of the noise changes up a bit from time to time, and there are also some heavily reverberated vocals in the background on occasion (which can be distracting because you can't understand a word of the vocals, they're rather abrasive). I like this, it's just a bit redundant for nearly six minutes. There aren't enough changes to hold my interest, and the consistency isn't as effective as it can often be for certain works. The recording is a little bit thin, but it's strange because it does cover a wide tonal range. There's a lot of low-end, some good mids, and some high tones as well, but the mix feels a bit separated, which in some ways is nice for the individual clarity of the elements, but I still feel like it would sound better if everything was closely knit with no gaps. The image on the cover of the sleeve here shows some people walking through a desolate landscape with some rundown buildings and piles of rubble. The back just has the band name and the title, etc., but it was typed up on a typewriter so it looks better than some of the other text-only backings. Only 51 copies exist, and I'm not sure what the story is on availability. My best guess is it's sold out. (6/10)
Running time - 5:41, Tracks: 1
