Harm Stryker - A Nightmare

Harm Stryker "A Nightmare" 3" CD
[PACrec]

I believe the label might have accidentally mistitled this because the song is actually just called "Nightmare". But anyway, this track was recorded some time ago, intended for this PACrec release as a precursor to their first four-song CD-R, but it also appears as the final track on that same "s/t" EP that just came out. As I stated when I reviewed their EP, this is a diverse track with a dismal sort of atmosphere that includes sick distorted electronic tones cutting across from side to side over waves of bass that rises and falls as whispered vocals seep through to the center. This version of the track sounds slightly different due to the mastering that was done on it at an earlier session, so it's not as loud as it is on their EP, but I sort of like the way it sounds here because the bass tones are very thick and smooth, and the vocals are actually a lot easier to understand for some reason. The only thing holding this back from getting a higher rating is the bland packaging. The front just has the Harm Stryker logo, which is bold and effective enough, but the text on the back is just too plain. I would've liked to see a nonstandard PACrec package for this one, because it's definitely awesome work. I think the CD-R was supposed to come with a pamphlet or flyer of some sort with additional information about the band's ideas, but unfortunately that didn't happen for some reason. (I assume it was a matter of the label's need to save on shipping charges?) Numbered out of 50 copies, I'm shocked but I think there are a few of these left. Definitely check this project out, though... very cool. (7/10)
