Aluminum Noise "Sweet Leaf" 3" CD
[PACrec]
Christ, this is by far the harshest track I've ever heard from Aluminum Noise. I never would've guessed that project would be responsible for this. I'm talking blaring harsh noise. I can't even tell what's going on, all I know is that it's grating, it's gritty, it's loud as fuck, and it keeps getting louder and louder. I think there are some maniacally distorted vocal screams in there, and of course there are a few evident Black Sabbath samples as well... but for the most part? Watch the volume knob, because this track could very well annihilate your speakers or your ears. The recording is pretty solid. I'm not sure what means were used but it sounds too clear to have been done with an analog recording device. The distortion is razor sharp and there's a lot of biting treble and rusty midrange in there. The sheer volume is also impressive. As for the packaging, the sticker on the front cover of the small plastic sleeve that houses the "business card" disc has an old posed photo of Black Sabbath, and the back cover has a mildly psychedelic little design with a marijuana leaf alongside some text. Not what I expected, but not bad. I like it a bit better when they combine the noise with the Sabbath samples because it feels more structured and thought out. My only real gripe though is that the track is a bit stagnant for the majority of its nearly six-minute run. I'm still into it, though. The package isn't numbered so I don't know how many of these exist, but it's no more than 55 copies and chances are they're long gone... (6/10)
