What would everyone prefer to see more of, exactly?

I feel like responses to a lot of posts are a little off lately, so I'm just curious…

Everything is looking good from here. I like the variety. Maybe things were off a bit because of Halloween. And you can expect all of your Philadelphia area readers to have dropped off lately, as they've been busy trashing their city again. I was there friday and I swear it looked like a bomb hit the place. GO PHILS.

Ditto on the diversity … I never comment much, but I've really been liking the diversity lately. Rash of Beatings, Svarti Loghin, Moutheater, Mightyfew, and Quagmire were all great discoveries for me. As long as it doesn't start becoming all bedroom black metal all the time, I'm happy … haha.

Less modern metal with Photoshopped covers, more old stuff. :)

You have a very diversely broad quality taste, keep this way, everything is cool too me, Aversionline.com is my reference for good music.

  5. Invisible Oranges said:

I like the diversity also. That Svarti Loghin is still doing my head in. I kind of miss the coverage of new releases, Photoshopped covers or not.

i want to see more hardcore like not just the usual darker shit but like old 90s NYHC or 90s core in general…or some jersey stuff like jerk city, the mongoloids, rottmann, suburban scum, disaster, pellinore,

I would like to see more new releases and old-school metal/thrash picks every now and then.

It's interesting, because I feel like the last time I posed a question of this nature there were a good number of responses that seemed more excited to see an increase in "classic" posts of obscure old material, which I've leaned ever-so-slightly more towards in recent months, and now multiple people are saying "more new releases", ha.

Very glad people still seem to dig the diversity though, as I never see that changing. It's hard to balance it out as much as I'd like sometimes, but I'll certainly always cover anything that strikes me…

Obscure 90's thuggish metalcore shit yo !

Everything related to NJHC and PAHC.

But of course, any kind of obscure of less-know band, old or recent, hardcore or not, wordwide, is always appreciated, keep up the good work pal.

I`ve been following your blog for a few years and I`m loving it more than ever. the diversity is great. snoras and moutheaters have been playing in my ipod a lot in the last 10 days. I`d like to see more experimental hardcore (stuff like majority rule or curl up and die but done by bands I don`t know) and more 90s emo like sunny day or jets to brazil, but I`m pretty happy with the current state of the blog.
    thanks!!

More old-school styled hardcore as well as crusty hardcore (something you post very seldomly).

  12. tom said:

well i credit you for turning me on to misery signals, snoras, agalloch, dawnbringer, and probably a bunch of other bands i listen to all the time but cant think of now. i definitely like the tough guy hardcore stuff cause thats what i grew up on but i guess i mostly appreciate the modern innovative hardcore and screamo stuff that you review. i think you probably have a pretty diverse set of readers and for a lot of people its probably pretty hit or miss. but i definitely wouldn't ask that you change cause i've been exposed to a bunch of great stuff i never would have found on my own. thanks!

Keep up the good work Andrew- you've really been doing a solid job lately with a lot of solid old school releases like Negative Male Child & Dare to Defy, as well as some of the more obscure stuff like Quagmire and Deadeffect. I'd agree with the last poster as far as seeing you going back to covering the whole crusty/d-beat hc scene, some of the lesser known 90's metalcore (Godbelow, Corrin, Aftershock, Harvest, Despair) and maybe some more doom & stoner stuff (Trouble, Solitude Aeternus.) Hails!

  14. James said:

I demand more writing about whatever the hell you feel like writing about, please. Thanks.

would like more obscure 90s metalcore as well, haha.

Bring back Blodstarid!!! or however it was spelled

I would definately like to see some stuff along the lines of One Eyed God Prophecy or Carol. Also, your post on Empty was really good, and if you've got anything along those lines, it would make for a great update.

I've really been liking these recent posts. It's good to see a band like Moutheater get recognition from your blog, and I really like how you've been posting these out of print discographies.

Digging the posts of Christdriver, Rash of Beatings, Terrorizer

  19. chris said:

i'm always down for some quality ('90s-sounding?) emo/indie.

diversity and quality, "expert"-like write-ups is what's keeping this blog miles above the rest. maybe that's why people don't comment that much, as there's not much to add.

but don't mistake scanty comments for a lack of interest.

  20. Tom_dk said:

I think you should post whatever you like. If I got to dictate what you posted, there wouldn't be any new stuff to broaden my horizon, and that goes for everyone else, whether they realize it or not. :)

  21. AVERSIONLINE said:

Many thanks for all the feedback, everyone.

I can't promise more of the crusty stuff as I've honestly just not listened to a ton of that stuff in recent years beyond old classics (be it Discharge or His Hero is Gone), but I'll see what I can do, heh.

Honestly, I think your reviews are right on the money. More often than not it's something that I've never heard or heard of; and I usually like what I have to hear. Lately, I've been into a lot of instrumental/indie/post-rock shit, but that's the trend right now. I'm always in the mood for more apocalyptic crust (e.g. tragedy, fall of efrafa, muga etc.) or some rocked out stoner type shit (javelina, appollonia) stuff that defies categories (haust, helms alee - those bands slay). I always love anything that you post from ItsaTrap (Viola, Tiger Lou, Closer, though it's been lacking lately). You don't post much doom, but when you do it rocks (unearthly trance, rwake - FYI the new UFOMammut is killer). More accessible stuff like This Et Al is another band I never would have heard of if it wasn't for this site. All in all, it's very rare that I don't like what you post, but if I had to make a suggestion maybe have a seperate section strictly set aside for classics, especially metalcore (as I missed a lot of those bands when I was on my punk/Oi! only phase in high school). Even a list of your favorites w/o a full write up would be great. Either way, keep it up….

  23. R0B said:

More old stuff man. Nothing against learning about newer "extreme" music and such (your reviews are good), I just liked it when you were also posting a fair amount of stuff from 15-25 years ago too.

  24. V. said:

more 90's new school hardcore :) post whatever you like. aversion is very cool blog

  25. Andrew C. said:

I personally would like to see a few more new releases, but for the most part, you do do that… so i can't complain. I love that i'm always seeing new artists here that i've barely even heard of; it's why i come here, to find new stuff i hadn't known of before.

But okay, i'll comment more often now too. :)

  26. AdamG said:

I'd say post whatever you feel like. That's the difference between a blog and a standard music fanzine website I think. I only respond or check out the music on maybe 5-10% of the posts but I check out the site every other day at least because you have a great writing style. It's cool when a post comes up even just every once in a while for what I consider a classic band/album.

  27. AdamG said:

…and maybe throw in a completely mainstream punk/rock album you're into every once in a while so we can see the responses! That will be as interesting as a really obscure posting I reckon!

    Always more holy terror!

    P.S. I love this blog!

  29. Anonymous said:

Maybe check out Bridge to Solace (ex-Newborn) from Hungary — I would be curious to hear your thoughts.

  30. thoren said:

    Holy Terror.

Lesser known Japanese hardcore/metal/punk bands of various persuasions.

Lesser known metal influenced hardcore bands from Europe.

    =)

I think it is a perfect blend of current but note generic black metal, great old and new hardcore, and new releases by other metal artisits. I think the mix of old and new across the genres is perfect. I have found a lot of great shit from your recommendations. Keep it up.

  32. timLB said:

Everything's fine with me, it's just normal some posts don't get so much responses, deadeffect and rash of beatings shit on daretodefy though ;) just do your thing people will post again.

  33. adlianb said:

your website is my tome for hardcore so please, do more hardcore, metalcore, holy terror and thugcore stuffs…either recent or essential stuffs

  34. Anonymous said:

Less hardcore that is just more of the same… I used to love hardcore, but I can barely even differentiate half the hardcore bands you put on here.

  35. Anonymous said:

Keep doing what you're doing… this blog is peerless!

  36. Anonymous said:

I can always take some more grindcore.

  37. Trevor said:

I'm not sure if you have already reviewed the following so please forgive me if that is the case. But I would love to hear your opinion on the following…

    The Faceless -Akeldama
    The Faceless -Planetary Duality
    Decrepit Birth -Diminishing Between Worlds
    Cynic -Traced in Air
Deeds of Flesh -Of Whats to Come

New Trap Them record kills, review it!

More crazy experimental-jazz-fusion-grind stuff ala Lye By Mistake and maybe some more indie/emo stuff ala Damiera. I mean anything really; new or old. I don't care so long as the tunes keep coming. Keep on fighting the Good Fight.

Please write a book about PAINTBOX and try to make it so that it could be considered as reading material for the youth in school 'cause that band needs to be implanted in everybody's head.

Other than that, I enjoy this blog intensely and have since the day it came out.

I have been a huge fan of this webzine since the very very beginning. I have to admin that I don't read it all that much anymore. This is certainly NOT because the quality of the posts has deteriorated, on the contrary! It is because I am not interested in the concept of "record reviews" anymore, it just doesn't do the trick for me. I use last.fm to discover new music and, like many of us in here, only read metalinquisition.blogspot.com when it comes to mp3/metal blogs.

Personally speaking, I would like to see articles / rants / stories /collaborative experiments of all sorts in aversionline, using heavy music as the central axis is certainly welcome but not necessary. Andrew is a very talented writer, he's been around for a long while and his views are legit and interesting to say the least.

I would love it if you talked a bit more about some of the modern foreign screamy hardcore. Like A Fine Boat, That Coffin from Germany. Or, Kias Fansuri from Malaysia. These are bands that are really pushing the envelope regarding what "Screamo" and metallic hardcore should, could, and can sound like. Otherwise, I think your page is quite nice.
