Quagmire “We Know We Don’t Know” CD

Quagmire - We Know We Don't KnowHaving released three EP's and a full-length since 1999, I believe "We Know We Don't Know" (released on CD by Groupsounds) is the sophomore full-length effort from Sweden's Quagmire, who I had unfortunately never heard prior to this. Recommended by the label for fans of Fugazi and Shellac and the like, the album's nine tracks explore an array of efficiently meshed influences: From jangly, angular alternative/indie rock riffing strewn with a really nice dash of melody and interwoven guitar textures, to pounding basslines and raw, energetic burst of punk-ish power chord rhythms. The songwriting just offers an excellent blend of frantic and relaxed atmospheres—the true quality of which doesn't fully take hold until you get about 10 minutes in and everything starts to sink in a bit deeper. I haven't encountered all that much music of this nature in recent times, but this is a great fuckin' album that really hits the spot. Here's a little taste of what the material has to offer:

Quagmire "Pre-emptive Retaliation"
Quagmire "McGandhi"

And if you like what you hear, the entire album is actually available from the band for free under a Creative Commons license:

  1. Good shit, makes physics work 100% more enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong, I really don’t mind doing physics either.

    Couple of things off subject…

I doubt anyone is going to beat Silva before his contract with the UFC runs out, which I believe is 4 more fights. I believe he had 6 left before the fight with Irving. There is no one in that division that has a chance. I personally think its one of the reasons Bisping dropped down. He knows if Silva retires he doesn’t really have any competition outside of Franklin in that division.

The Sherk vs. Griffin fight was great, really glad Sherk won.

The Koscheck vs Alves fight was the best of the night. I really didn’t care who won that fight cause I like both fighters. I think Koscheck is an amazing athlete, and if he would have won that fight on a two week notice man his ranking would have skyrocketed. I am pretty sure that the next time we see Alves will be against GSP, he would have had that already had he been able to make weight against Hughes. Though I personally think fight GSP is pointless cause again no matter how good some of these guys are, they don’t stand a chance against him. If he loses any time soon is a fluke.

    Dos Santos knock kicked ass.

Gray Maynard = snore, no way this fight should have been on the main card of Spencer Fishers fight.

Sorry for running my mouth about the UFC to who ever reads this and doesn’t give a shit about it.

  3. This is killer…thanks.  Reminds me a bit of that Dischord band Faraquet.  Or maybe even a little Smart Went Crazy?  Maybe all those 90s Dischord bands are blending in my head.

Anyways, continuing the off-topic subject Jon started (and here I thought I was just gonna say thanks for the music)...

The UFC has a major problem…a lot of stacked divisions, but clear divides between the champs and the contenders.

185 - Silva…......then Franklin, Henderson (potentially), Okami, Marquardt, Leites, Mcdonald…uhh…who?  They need to either start bringing in new blood (Filho?) or put together money matches (Liddell/Silva?) quick.

155 - Penn….then…a lot of midgets who are fun to watch but pose ZERO threat to BJ.  Sherk?  Nope.  Huerta?  Ha.  Florian?  Nope.  Stevenson?  Nope.  Guida, Edgar, Maynard, Diaz?  Nope.  Fun to watch…but then you put in the supposed “best” in Sherk up again BJ and he runs a fucking jab clinic on the dude.

I’m excited for GSP/BJ.  I put my money on BJ any day of the week on that fight.  Fight of the year for sure.

  4. I guess I’ll go ahead and chime in on this, despite its complete lack of context, ha, ha.

I like Bisping and all, and he’s WAY better as a middleweight, but I’m honestly shocked that he’s amassed a 17-1 record.  He hasn’t really fought any “greats” yet, though, so wait and see if he gets schooled anytime soon, ha.  I actually thought Leben was gonna knock him out.  That fight fucking sucked.

I could see BJ losing to GSP.  That should be an excellent fucking fight, regardless, though.

Totally think they should move Silva up to light heavyweight and see what happens there.  I was pretty slow to truly appreciate his mastery, but when he effortlessly crushed James Irvin I got on board 100%.  I only wish he had done the same to Côté.  As much as Côté was running his mouth with just insane, overconfident statements, even after the fight - and then to learn that he had to take a fucking cortisone shot for that knee BEFORE THE FIGHT (“old injury” my ass) - I mean, man, he kinda deserved to get smashed on some level.  I dunno…
