Christdriver “Everything Burns” CD

Christdriver - Everything BurnsHere's another old repost, by request. Every time I throw this CD in I'm immediately floored by opener "Mediate" and remember just how awesome these guys were—and more listeners (still) need to be aware of it. The band formed in Seattle from the ashes of Subvert sometime in 1991, but rather than the hardcore/punk stylings that Subvert explored, Christdriver was much more of a cold, industrial metal act: Think bleak dissonance, pulsing slow to midpaced tempos, plenty of samples, hypnotic repetition, and long songs that average around seven minutes each. They made their recorded debut in 1995 with the "Your Vision Leaves Me Blind" 7", which I've actually never heard, and followed that up in 1996 with the 70+ minute "Everything Burns". 10 years of existence and I think that was all they released, which is a damn shame, but hey... at least their mastery was documented, a mere two releases or not! Both of their records were released on the Profane Existence label, but trust me, they're only hardcore/punk in spirit... the music is far more sinister and atmospheric. So if you've got any preconceived biases, check that shit at the door. Admittedly there are points on the full-length that are blatant Godflesh worship (think "Streetcleaner", especially), but Godflesh is one of the greatest bands in the history of life, so that's fine by me.

Apparently this disc, too, has gotten much harder to come by over the years, so here's the entire album from an old Mediafire link I just found (thanks, Google blog search):

  1. That song ruled.  Is that quote at the beginning of the song from a movie?

  3. i can send you mp3s of the 7” if you’re interested, just have to rip them first. saw those guys in seattle back when. they played out in the punk/ industrial scene a good bit, but you’re right, totally underappreciated.

  6. Gents, I would say that these guys gave Wicker Man a run for their money.  I saw christdriver at The Big Horse in Chicago.  They cranked!  all members signed my copy of Your Vision Leaves Me Blind.  Even their roadie signed it.  They are a class act.  I would like to see them again in Chicago.

  10. I remember as I was watching Predator a long time ago when that scene happens I was like… ‘waitaminnit, i’ve seen this before’... and yes, it is indeed the cover for this album. My favorite song personally is ‘you destroy’. I’m glad I ordered this CD a long time ago! seems like it’s kinda rare now! now if I could only get a hold of one of those t-shirts…

  11. I just put my copy of Everything Burns up on Ebay if anyone wants to bid. I haven’t listened to the CD in years, it deserves to be owned by someone who’ll appreciate it.

  12. Have you still not heard the 7”?  I have it ripped and just need to edit/tag it.  Let me know…

  13. I think I did finally get to hear it back then, but I don’t have the files anymore, so if you could hit me up with ‘em that’d be awesome!  Many thanks…

  14. There is many quotes from movies on this album not just from Predator. For example Pulp Fiction. Not to mention the fucking Bladerunner. Great music, Bladerunner quote makes in even greater…

  15. Too bad that the vinyl version of the CD doesn’t have the full album.

I just scored a sweet Christdriver “Your Vision Leaves Me Blind” XL longsleeve on eBay a week or 2 ago for 3 bucks.  I didn’t know ANYONE else still cared about this band…

  17. That record has been one of my favorites since high school.  I pulled it out of the Extreme Noise used bin with no clue what the band sounded like, and a month hasn’t passed without me listening to it since.

  18. Okay, I went ahead and posted the Christdriver 7” on my blog.  Here’s the mediafire link if anyone’s interested (It’s ripped at 320, cover scans, blah blah…)—

  20. i’m really happy this record still means so much to people. yes, the CD version of this is next to impossible to find, but i believe profane still might have some vinyl copies of the album, the 7” has been out of print for years. one of the most important things in CHRISTDRIVER was the sense of family and community that surrounded us everywhere we went; from 10 people in the back of a burrito shop in chicago, to 100 people in a storage unit in el paso, to all the people who would tour with us through arizona, new mexico, and colorado, to the friends that supported the “great experiment” that was CHRISTDRIVER here at home. it all would’ve been impossible with out our friends, simply because of what an intense time that was for all concerned; very intense, very emotional, very rewarding. hopefully you can get into our new band (not THAT new),
BLACK NOISE CANNON. cheers! eric greenwalt

  21. I pent my time in Christdriver starting off as a roadie humping gear and ended up doing the film work. It was an experience that gave me a lifelong family and I have never regretted one single minute of it. I always look forward to any time I am able to spend with any one of these brothers of mine. cheers,Taco23

  22. Thanx man!
I’ve been looking during long time for this stuff on digital. I just got the vinyl but wasn’t able to find the cd or a rip… whatever.
Cant wait to hear Black Noise Cannon too!

  24. I saw Christdriver play in Anaheim with Phobia and Final Conflict at Public Storage on Halloween when I was in high school definitely one of the most intense live bands I’ve ever seen still to this day. Bought the record that night but have been loking for a digital version for my fancy mp3 thingy cheers.

  25. Haha, I used to go see these guys all the time back in the day, they also performed a smoking cover of “Comfortably Numb”. Eric and Joe were hella cool and always hanging out with everyone. It was really cool when their girlfriends formed Baba Yaga and started playing shows with them, they were just as heavy. I still have the 7’ single and my old Christdriver T shirt!!! Loved those guys. joe does tatoo’s at Pierced hearts in Seattle and Eric Greenwalt still lives in Seattle too. Would love to see a reunion show for these guys.
