i finally got my hands on this new disc and just as suspected they kill it once again. this shit just reeks of quality.
i do find the Devin Townsend thing (as mentioned in my comment above) alittle tiring on the ears though (moreso on here than on Of Malice…) as it never let's up (another needed dynamic element) which is my only real complaint.

i've read some reviews of this basically slagging it but whatever.
i fucking love both Of Malice… and Mirrors. they definitely strike that perfect balance between playing and thinking, as well as the aggression and the emotion. it always puzzled me why they didn't just return to Devin Townsend for Mirrors and i was initially thrown off by the lack of that whole big delay/reverb (head) space the majority of his recordings tend to have and/or put you in, but after numerous listen i found myself, or my ears adapting. have yet to get this but everything i've heard so far sounds phenomenal – MS doing what they do best.

I have hated everything this band has done, but for some reason something clicked with "Controller." I LOVE LOVE LOVE the vocals – one of my favorite parts about this release. Everything is just… on!! It's got that melodic hardcore feel, but the vocals almost give it this tough-guy sort of sound. I really dig it, although the sticker on the CD case was highly misleading…

Maybe I just need to listen to it a few more times, but this album does nothing for me and the vocals don't really help. I don't know if it's the same guy that was on Mirrors but the vocals on that record seemed more dynamic than they do on Controller.

so weird i definitely like mirrors way better than this album or malice. mirrors didnt rely on the stereotypical chugga chug that malice and controller do and actually felt like something new was being done with the genre. but i guess thats just me.

i too find the vocals somewhat bland and unengaging. annoying, even.

good, but made me pull out twelve tribes' "the rebirth of tragedy".
