Human Demise “Whitechapel Demise” CD

Human Demise - Whitechapel DemiseBelieve me, anyone who knows me can tell you that just about 10 years ago I was all over "holy terror" hardcore. Integrity, Catharsis, Gehenna, All Out War, Overcast... pretty much any band that was ever rightfully hit with that tag has a happy home in my collection. I never really understood why that term died out as it pertains to metallic hardcore with a certain apocalyptic lyrical edge/musical tone, but I guess as the face of metalcore changed, so did the terminology.

Thankfully I'm not the only who remembers the good ol' days.

I have to give Human Demise credit, as the Dutch act and their label, Envy Records, are the first parties in at least six or seven years that I've seen flat out use the term "holy terror" to promote this brand of hardcore. The band has been around for just about two years now, and the "Whitechapel Demise" EP will hopefully introduce them to the rest of the world who likely missed out on their demo. In terms of Cleveland influences these cast are most directly tied to Ringworm, both musically and in terms of vocal texture, and drop nothing but short tracks of fewer than three minutes apiece with maniacal vocals and thick power chords—tossing in a 90's European metalcore lean as well by adding in extra dashes of actual metal to the hardcore backbone. I was all over this within seconds. You had me at "holy terror", guys!

I'm definitely expecting bigger and better things to come from Human Demise, though sadly I can't seem to find any US distributors who are currently carrying the CD. Hopefully that will change in 2006, but for now email the band or the label for ordering information.

And I, for one, wholly encourage more bands to follow their lead and bring this shit back. Get to it!

  1. Sounds good to me. Very “Wormy”, which can’t be a bad thing. If you haven’t already, wait until you hear Deathwish’s newest foreign signing, RISE AND FALL.

  4. Good stuff. I too was a big band of some of those holy terror bands like AOW and Integrity, but I’m not familiar with Gehenna(only the BM band)or Catharsis.  Can you post some info on the other holy terror bands on the site, Andrew?

  5. Rise and Fall is definitely good but I’ve heard better, I’ll look forward to hearing their new material, though.

Howard, I’ll definitely be posting about Catharsis, Gehenna (US), and some of that stuff at some point in the future for sure.  Shoot me an email if you want more information in the meantime.

  6. Check out THE BREAK IN from England.  A little more moshy but i feel they somewhat can correlate to this style.  If all goes well, you might see a US release!

The new rise and fall is sweet stuff.  If any one wants to check out their prior cd check out my label Surprise Attack.  Sorry for the shameless plug andrew, gotta pay bills!  RAF should be touring the US in april or may!

  9. i read dwid did vocals on a band called sledge hammers debut on goodlife records. also his new project roses are forever is killer like the old integrity tune 18 but darker and more mellow. they have a myspace with three songs on it, also i guess he has relocated to belgium.. Integrity was a very important band, Catharsis was great i still have their debut and the album with the passion album. the tune witchking (or something like that) was almost all out black metal in everything except the vocals. another great band cool label too being crimethinc. Decibel the new metal/experimental mag in the us on their message board recently asked which readers consider more a landmark album in the metalic hardcore genre of theearly mid 90s. Those who fear tomorrow or deadguys fixation on a coworker. http://www.decible.com/forum if anyone has the time or cares go on and find the thread sign up and say why integrity was important as of now i am the only one. Integrity was a gateway band for me as i am pretty young. Decible is considering one of the two above mentioned albums to go in to their hall of fame which means in an issue they contact all the original band members on the release and do a good sized interview about the making of the album the time it came out and how they feel about the lasting effect it has had on extreme music in general. I feel strongly tat a bigger magazine should choose integrity because so many people in the new metalcore scene have never heard of integrity which is a damn shame. i think some of you may agree.

  16. I really like the new Rise and Fall LP. You should really check it out. I like to describe it as a “tougher” Cursed, as ridiculous as that sounds.
